Soren the Renamon

Personality: Soren is ... morbid, to say the least. Not aloof like most of his species are, but definitely morbid, though trying desperately not to show it. He doesn't complain about anything, ever, but it is easy to see something gnaws him from the inside, he just has the air about him that something went terribly, terribly wrong and he tries to hide it. That's pretty much the case, though he'd rather not share his problems with you, for these are his own burden to deal with.

Mostly Soren's internal struggle revolves around his friend Lucemon, whom he ... killed. Destroyed. Utterly, even the digiegg. He had a good reason to do it, or at least he thinks he had. At times he doubts if he should have taken the responsibility of destroying "great evil", before it could reveal itself, and sometimes he seeks comfort in thought that he did what must be done, and that there was no other way, sometimes praising himself for being able to make such a sacrifice "in the name of greater good", despite the fact others frowned greatly upon his motives. Soren realizes these thoughts are like finding an excuse for himself, but cannot help it. He is weaker than he wants to be. Without it, he would have gone crazy a long time ago. Well, crazier. It is part of the reason he stays in his exile instead of finding a way out. A form of self-punishment, that is.

The renamon has dreams. Bad, horrible, terrible ones. And such usually tend to come true. For this reason he is afraid to go to sleep, but when he does, you would be able to hear him screaming or whimpering in his sleep, talking, muttering curses, throwing random punches in the air and whatnot. These usually tend to wake up anyone in the vicinity, so he tries to keep himself somewhere away. Is greatly ashamed if he did wake someone up though.

Because of issues with his dreams coming true, he tends to keep himself away from others he meets, not allowing anyone closer than at arms' length, because he does not want to get emotionally involved if something bad happens to them, or to himself. To do so, he tends to be overly aloof, or snarky to the point of being mean, but most times simply being silent.

Soren hides most scars that mark him as a sinner and an outcast under his cloak, and dislikes greatly when somebody starts making an issue of it, even if they have every right to do so. Most people he meets in the desert, and helps them get through it for free or for a nominal price he often calls "gifts", and hates when people are bitching about who is helping them. In reality, he just hates when people start poking and prodding the issue that hurts so much.

Because of the harsh way of life he leads, Soren grew to be an expert path-finder and survivalist. He will survive on any terrain, and would never get lost. However, in fighting he is not as great. His close-quarter abilities are only mediocre, which is unusual for his species, who are renown to be apt in martial arts, but it is mostly because he never really trained in those. His tactic is hit-and-run, so he is very good at running, and gets creative with his long-range attacks, such as diamond storm. But he prefers to avoid fighting, if its possible.

History:

Soren's life, well ... it is a rather long story, but not a very happy one. He is not a very lucky, or happy digimon. I will try to make it shorter for you, and hope that I will keep all the important details, but skip on useless parts. Anyway, here goes. Chronicles of an insane renamon, sort of...

Soren, as most digimon, was "born" in the Primary Village, one among many, nothing special really. He was a good, light-hearted digimon, in two words, opposite of what he is now. The only problem he has was that he had some problems with sleep, but surely that's not enough to mess up somebody's life, right? Right? Wrong.

The condition progressed with the digimon, followed him around everywhere. From uneasy sleep it evolved to bad dreams, from bad dreams to worse, and worse, and worse, until every time he closed his eyes the renamon saw a horrible nightmare. But that was not the worst part, oh no, it came when he managed to somewhat cope with his fears.

At some point he started seeing ... things. In his dreams, he saw horrible things happening to someone he knew. Like being crushed by a rock, or falling off a cliff to death, among these things. He would have ignored it, but ... those dreams started coming true. Things he saw started happening to people around him. It was scary, really. Soren couldn't stand by and simply allow these to happen! So he started warning people whom he saw in danger during sleep. At first he was not listened to, but ... slowly, they trusted his predictions, and ... bad things didn't happen! And Soren was happy he managed to save someone that way. But it did not make his burden any easier.

It was then when he met his best friend, and, eprhaps, his greatest regret ever. A Lucemon, winged angel, he came from a local angel family. A kind, pure and compassionate soul. Being empathic, he sensed the poor renamon suffering, and gave all his strength to help Soren get rid of those nightmares. Sleeping pills, hypnosis, even trying to make use of his heavenly energy, but it didn't work. Still the renamon appreciated the effort, and they became best friends. After all, it was the first person to show such great concern... Until one day...

Soren was seeing what he considered to be most horrible vision yet... He saw ... dead people everywhere. The village he lived in burned to the crisp. Fire, smoke, bodies... It was horrible. And there was a shadowy figure among the blazing fires. The one who did all of this... Soren wished to go closer, to see who was that creature of malice and darkness, to see who he must stop. To his horror ... it was ... his dear friend Lucemon. Soren woke up in cold sweat.

He was not able to believe it. How could this be true? There must have been some mistake! Surely, ... but his previous visions all came true if he didn't do anything, right? He had to do something... Mind was working frantically, seeking a possible explanation, a way out of this. Lucemon was his friend, but could he allow this to happen? In the end, it proved that he was not able to...

That night Soren broke into the house of the angel family and killed the Lucemon in his sleep. Killed his best friend. In order to save the village, at least, according to his dreams. He never ever questioned what was the source of all these dreams, but instead simply did what they commanded him to do. In the name of greater good. Or so he thought. As his friend's body broke into data, leaving a digiegg, his very core, unborn, innocent life, the renamon ... destroyed it too. Without mercy, or pity. It had to be done...

He stayed at the scene of the crime, until the peace-keepers arrived to arrest him. And at the trial, he acknowledged his deeds, knowing full well that he is the guilty one here. Did not bother to tell the judges about his dreams, and when being asked as to why he did it, only replied: "Doesn't matter. Just get on with it." He was ready to accept his fate, whatever it may be. He felt sorrow for his dead friend, but he was so sure it would save more lives, it had to be done...

The judge was enraged. He wanted to treat the culprit the same way he treated the Lucemon, but ... the angel family came to his defense. They held all life sacred, even one of the murderer, and, Soren thought, they figured he had some reason to do it, because he couldn't kill his best friend like that in cold blood over nothing. The judge listened to their pleas, and changed the punishment, but it was as severe as deletion, if not more severe...

Soren was to be exiled as punishment. Never to return again, and spend the rest if his days wandering the barren deserts - place where sinners like him are sent. The renamon's body was covered with marks that cannot be erased, even by evolution. They resembled ... fire marks, symbolizing the fires of hell, in which he will burn, forever. There were various types of marks for different sins, his ... was the one that put fright into hearts of even hardcore criminals. Other exiles feared and hated him as soon as they saw his marks, so he stayed away from them...

Now he dwells in the deserts, and, unlike other criminals who attack lonely travelers out of spite, tries to make use of his knowledge, offering travelers to guide them safely through the unforgiving sands, for a nominal prise, be that a piece of cloth or a cooking pot, and often for no charge, if said travelers have nothing to give, though he considers this to be rude. His dreams, for some while, became ... calm, good. Maybe these were times when he could truly get some rest. But recently ... his nightmares started returning again...

Gashing Breeze - launches a barrage of dark razor-sharp feathers from his wings, alongside a shock wave.

Mind-reader - Can be used once per battle. This ability allows Karatenmon to anticipate enemy attacks for 2 turns. It will not guarantee he will dodge anything, but it would certainly make it easier.

Cursed Slash - Gathers dark energy within his swords to launch them at the enemy in an X-like attack. Alternatively, can keep the energy within his blades to magnify the damage he does with them.

Pyramid Power - an energy sign, which looks like a triangle with an eye in the center, appear in front of the user, and a beam of energy is shot at the enemies from the eye, incinerating targets upon hit.
